Woodturner subscription service, launching

To become even closer

First, touch and taste.

Making the extraordinary part of everyday life.

——

Thank you for visiting the page for the very first wooden tableware subscription service, crafted directly by the artisans themselves.

We are Shozu Shikkou, a woodturning workshop located in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Our goal is to reintroduce wooden tableware, which may have become a bit distant for some, into your daily lives and allow you to discover its charm.
Ultimately, we hope to re-establish its place in your everyday living.

Through this new service, "Wooden Tableware Subscription,"
we hope that as many people as possible can experience the warmth and depth of character that "wood" as a material and handcrafted items can bring to tableware.
Bringing tableware to enrich your home life, closer to you!

This is a subscription service that allows you to try artisan ceramics for a fixed monthly fee.

Up until now...

"Too expensive, I can't afford it."

"Looks difficult to care for."

"Are wooden vessels really that good?"

For those who have hesitated to purchase for these reasons, we have launched the industry's first subscription service for wooden vessels, allowing you to easily try them out.

From everyday bowls and teacups to special lacquerware and delicate wine glasses,
we, the traditional craftspeople and woodturners, offer a variety of wooden vessels for a flat monthly fee.

If you like an item, you can keep it. If you want to try other items, you can exchange them as many times as you like.

Two easy subscription plans

We want you to feel as close to wooden tableware as possible, so we have prepared two plans to suit your needs.

01

Purchase Plan if you like it

Rent the tableware that catches your eye on a monthly subscription basis. You can try out how it feels and how to care for it in your daily life.

After a certain period, the item automatically becomes yours. This plan allows you to try before you buy and make a purchase with confidence.

Why we recommend subscriptions

--

This industry-first initiative will create a new future for wooden tableware.

You can try it out.

Seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times, and touching once is better than seeing a hundred times. The appeal of wood cannot be understood without actually touching it with your hands and experiencing it with your tongue. We respond to that desire.

Returns and exchanges are always accepted.

Since your contract is on a monthly basis, it's perfectly fine if you don't like it or change your mind and want to try something else. Please feel free to contact us with your requests at any time.

Because it's a wooden vessel

The reason we were able to create a tableware subscription service is because we are the makers, and because our bowls are made of wood. The bowls that are returned can be restored again and again.

Find your favorite pottery

There are two ways to approach this: choose from the categories of vessel types, or choose by wood type.

Frequently Asked Questions

Customer Testimonials

Female, 50s

I love plain wood bento boxes, but I'm such a worrier about dirt and hygiene that they often end up as mere display pieces, which is a shame. I find artificial coatings hard to accept, but lacquerware was too expensive for someone of my humble means, creating a dilemma. I don't have any reservations about this coating, and I'd love to give it a try. And of course, also to support the preservation of a wonderful tradition!

Male, 30s

I'd never used a wooden cup and hadn't been inclined to buy one, but since I could rent one cheaply through a subscription service, I decided to try it. Hot coffee didn't make my hand hot, and it was easy to use. I'd like to try various other things in the future. I gave it four stars because it's not dishwasher safe.

Male, 40s

I was hesitant about buying it, so I'm glad I did. I tried it and liked it, so I'll continue using it.

Woodturner's tableware

Are you familiar with the existence of a craftsman called a "Kijishi" (wood turner)?

A Kijishi's job is to turn wood and create the "Kiji," which is the shape of a vessel before lacquer or coating is applied.

We, Takumi-Shu Shikkou, are a group of craftsmen who have been facing "wood" every day and turning Kiji for over 75 years in Yamanaka Lacquerware, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

There are three things we value when making our vessels. They are: vessels that fit comfortably in the hand and are "just right" for a wide range of uses; vessels that are easy to clean daily and won't wear out even with daily use; and vessels that allow people to experience that each one is unique and one-of-a-kind, made from natural wood materials.

Please enjoy the vessels we have created by mobilizing all our experience, knowledge, and passion.
